THE DIVING BELL & THE BUTTERFLY

By turns dreamlike, brave and breathtaking, this film is an international smash hit, winning the best director prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. This beautiful adaptation of Jean-Dominique Bauby’s affecting, revelatory memoir tells the story of a successful fashion editor and carefree womanizer who awakes one day to find himself a prisoner in his own body. He has been paralyzed by a massive stroke that renders him powerless to move a muscle – except his left eyelid.

SHORT FILM: Les Grands, The Schoolyard.

THE COUNTERFEITERS

An epic tale of temptation during WWII, The Counterfeiters recounts a diabolical Nazi plot that exploited the expertise of a group of concentration camp inmates. The scheme involved toppling foreign economies and fuelling the German war effort with hoards of counterfeit notes. The men forced to craft all that money were imprisoned Jews who just happened to be bankers, printers and a few professional forgers. In return, they were offered the chance to live the high life while their fellow prisoners starved. SHORT FILM: Paradise.

THE TRACEY FRAGMENTS

Winner of the Best Actress (Ellen Page), Best Director and Best Canadian Feature at the 2007 Atlantic Film Festival, THE TRACEY FRAGMENTS was recently named one of Canada’s Top Ten features of 2007. The film is boldly experimental, using split screens to tell the story of a fractured character. Tracey Berkowitz is a typically troubled teenaged girl: unhappy, self-critical and plagued by school. When her younger brother, Sonny, goes missing, she begins a daring and dangerous search. SHORT  FILM:  No Bikini.
